End of Year Brunch

Today was a good day for my TOPS chapter.

It is our last gathering for the end of the year, and this year we're having our Christmas brunch at Tulip's. All six of us were there, including guests.

We had a good time, passing gifts around and sharing stories. We thank the staff of Tulip's for a wonderful time. I do hope we could return there for another brunch, like to celebrate milestones, birthdays.

Soldier's Night Before Christmas

Historical Context
-"A Visit from St Nicholas" or "Twas the night before Christmas," was first anonymously published back in 1823 in the 'Troy Sentinel.' While the authorship is traditionally attributed to Clement Clarke-Moore, it has also been suggested that Henry Livingston Jr wrote the original.
Now to the present time, which brings us to "Merry Christmas, my Friend" or "Soldier's Night Before Christmas," which was written by a Lance Corporal James Schmidt in 1986. A Marine who was stationed in Washington DC during the time.
Later, it was published in the 'Leatherneck Magazine' in December 1991.
Over the years, there have been many renditions of the poem, matching the different services.

I'm dedicating this video to all servicemen and women around the world, who are away from home, wishing you all happy holidays and safe blessings to return home.

Spotify Pilot

https://open.spotify.com/show/14FPycASspzJLKo84hw0H6?si=RGDijMQ4RWGX074SP6VUuQ

Well, Journeyers, I've actually done it. I started my own podcast. Those who have Spotify can find my podcast under the title, 'Life Journey with Jessy.' Much the same as my blog here.
I would be sharing my journey, local events, reviews of places visited, food, and book reviews. Be sharing information on TOPS (take off pounds sensibly), and even do book, article, recipe, and magazine readings.

It's Finally Here!

 Hey Journeyers!

Well, I never thought that I would see the day when our town would have one of these in it.

Let me lay out the back story here. Back in 2019, our town lost one of its treasured historical places. The Mayville diner was established back in 1947. It was a wonderful place filled with history, memories, and many families. Workers met for good meals and fun times. Behind it is the large sledding hill, where many kids meet up during the winter season.

Now, after six years of being a vacant lot, the town finally agreed to place there, a Tim Hortons.

That's right, journeyers, we have a Tim Hortons in town.

The build started back in mid-August. The completion and opening will hopefully be by the end of the week or next week.

Halloween Trunk n Treat

 Happy Halloween, Blessed Samhien!!!

Hope that everyone is or had a good holiday.

Today, besides work, I also participated in this year's annual Trunk n Treat at my church. I couldn't last year cause of work, but with this job, I was able to join the fun.

I had a setup of an elf's cove with treasure to pass out to the kids, alternatives to candies, such as collector gems, pirate coins, glowsticks, and squish toys. We all had fun, even got the chance to see my nephew and hold him for a bit, while he wore a cute little cow costume.

1001 Meditation Day 4, Plus Shout Out!

 Looking Both Ways

Janus, the Roman god of thresholds, provides an appropriate focus for reflection when you are embarking upon a new phase in your life. He is often depicted with two faces - one of a child looking forward into the future and one of a bearded old man looking back into the past. Visualize yourself standing in a doorway, on the threshold of your new venture. Standing beside you is Janus. Looking behind you, survey your past and ask the old face of Janus to recount the most important lessons you have gathered from your previous experiences. Then look forward and ask the young face of Janus for some positive energy for the future. Encouraged by his hopefulness, set out on your journey.

Note: Hoping these help you all, my Journeyers, as we all reflect during our everyday lives.

SHOUT OUT!!!

Wishing my wonderful mother a happy, blessed 68th birthday!!

1001 Meditation Day 1

 Welcoming the Dawn

In many spiritual traditions dawn - when the world is at its most peaceful - is regarded as an ideal time for meditation. Just before dawn, go outside and find a place to sit and watch the sunrise. As the sun emerges above the horizon, fill your awareness with the brightening hues of the sky and rejoice in the beauty of the new day. Feel the golden rays of the sun warm your face and allow hope to fill your heart and refresh your spirit. You have started the day well.

First Book Review!!!

 Hey Journeyers!

Well, here it is, as promised, my very first book review.

I have so many to choose from, past readings and present. But, for my first book review, I've decided to present the newest and latest book, which I'm so obsessed with since I got into the TikTok series. I'm so into it that when it first came out, I got the Kindle version first. Followed by the Audible. Then, as a birthday gift from my mother, she got me the paperback copy (that now my bestie is borrowing and having a fit that the second book isn't out yet. Like me. Patience is a virtue).

So, if anyone was in any form of customer service, they would appreciate this. It's funny, heartbreaking, and romantic. Written by a wonderful TikTok creator, who took her creative content and turned it into a great best-selling book.

For Whom the Belle Tolls is the prequel of the TikTok series Hell's Belles by the creator See.Ya.Later, better known as Jaysea Lynn.

Within the book, it shows how a mortal soul named Lily wanders down to hell and creates the 'hellp desk.' Meet up with a demon prince, with whom she hit it off, and both adopted a cute kid in a shark onesie.

Metabolic Coffee

Good morning Journyers, hope you all are having a wonderful Sunday.

Today, I'm sharing a new coffee recipe that both my husband and I have been drinking that's been helping us.

A while back, I gifted my husband the forgotten Apothecary book that's been a big hit throughout social media.

On page 92, there is Metabolic Coffee. It consists of brewed coffee, turmeric, ginger, and cinnamon. With options of pepper, coconut oil, and sweeter.

Instructions:

Brew a cup of coffee

Add 1/2 tsp turmeric for anti-inflammatory properties & a pinch of pepper to enhance the curcumin in the turmeric for the fat-burning benefits

Incorporate 1/2 tsp cinnamon to help regulate blood sugar, and good for that earthy taste

Then introduce 1/4 tsp of ginger for digestive benefits

You can also, as an option to add coconut oil for extra energy

Addition of sweetener or flavored creamer to taste

Enjoy!

Hitting the big 45!

 Happy, happy birthday to me!!!

That's right, Journeyers, today was my 45th birthday.

Of course, as a tradition in my family, I was taken out for breakfast by my parents. We went out to Tulip's, where my mother gifted me with a beautiful zodiac music box. Plus, my mother took my request seriously when I stated that I don't want a cake this year, but a cookie.

Unfortunately, I had work, but my husband, being the sweet guy he is, took me out to lunch at one of our favorite restaurants, the Dutch Village out of Clymer. There, while waiting for our meals, he snuck away, only to return with one of the servers who was holding one of their massive cinnamon rolls with a candle in it.

When I did get to work, one of my co-workers left me a very thoughtful message. She's so sweet.

Later on, I got contacted by my husband once I got out of work, asking me to stop at his workplace to pick up some sodas, only to find out that he had put together a gift basket for me. He's so wonderful, and it was a good birthday in the end.

Tulip's Brunch House Review

 Happy Sunday, Journeyers!

Today, I met up with my best friend, Rach, to check out the newest cafe in town, Tulip's.

It's a cute little place that's actually up the road from me and across the road near the curve. Funny thing about this place, it used to be a house that once belonged to a close friend of my parents. Then it was turned into a seasonal restaurant called "House on the Hill." Now it's a Brunch house, which will be open year-round, after being closed for nearly three years or more (can't remember when it was last open).

So beautiful and spacious. Choice between indoor and outdoor seating. Farm to table concept ranging from breakfast to lunch favorites (not alcohol service yet).

Prices are a little steep, but in the end, well worth it. I give it 9 out of 10. The best features are location, food quality, and service.

SRD 2025 Batavia Downs

 Evening Journeyers, how's it going?

Can't believe it's already June. The year is flying by quickly as we have reached the halfway mark.

But anyway, it's that time of year for New York State TOPS (take off pounds sensibly) State Recognition Days, or SRD. This year, we're at Batavia, New York, within the Batavia Downs conference hall. My mother and I were the only ones who attended this year, and funny enough, we were staying at the Red Roof Inn, where my husband and I got stranded back in 2019 after an accident with a deer. Even more ironic, we were in the exact same room he and I were in during that time.

So, we had a good time, not so lucky at the casino this time around, but still had a great time seeing TOPS friends, listening to guest speakers, including the president of Batavia Downs, who was the past mayor of Buffalo, and the stunning Lola, a retired Vegas showgirl (the exact one from the infamous song, "Copacabana (at the Copa)."

New Scale, like Wow!!

Well, journeyers, I hope everyone is having a good day and an even better Easter this past weekend.

Anyways, I'm on here cause I have come across something while out shopping earlier today. I finally had to buy a new scale since my other one stopped working properly. Anyways, while I dropped my Beloved off at work this morning, I had to pick up a few items.

While passing through the 'As Seen On TV' section, I noticed they also placed some of the TikTok 'Trending Now' items up. As I looked through, I came across a smart scale. It could record up to 24 different essential body metrics and give a full, detailed report on each.

Now, I tried to scan the QR that they provided to download the app, but it didn't work, so what I had to do was go into the Google Play Store, look up the app they needed, called 'Scale Up.' As soon as I downloaded it, of course, it asked me the basic questions, then I could start using it to record my weight; it even suggests the best time to weigh yourself.

I prefer to weigh myself in the morning after I wake up; this way, it's before I have breakfast or the first sip of coffee.

But the two forms of reports I received shocked me, one was a brief summary, while the other was a more detailed version with suggestions for improvements if needed.

So, in my opinion, at the moment, it is

a good investment, we will see as I continue down my journey for better health.

One Pint, Save Many

Hey journeyers. How is everyone doing?
Well, I just did my good deed for the day. I went and donated blood.
Sometime back, I used to do so regularly up til COVID. Ever since, I haven't had the time to do so, plus they require appointments now instead of just walking in as I used to do.
So, I took some time right after work, gone down to the park at the center there and donated a pint of my blood, even though I was advised if I could get my iron up I could do a blood plus donation. But since it's my first time donating in years, I didn't want to overdo it.

So Magnificent!

 This is so breathtaking, Journeyers.

Around President's Day weekend, Mayville had its annual Winterfest once more. But this year, wow.

Winter was brutal yet a blessing this year, for we were able to have a decent ice castle, and to witness its building was genius. To prevent the ice from melting too soon, they were packing snow around it, preserving it. Unlike previous castles, they kept this one up for an additional two weeks, then the one, since we haven't had a decent castle in years.

Getting into Work

Time sure flies by, doesn't it, journeyers?

Been so busy adjusting to my new role and job up at Tops Market that I haven't had a chance to be on. So, allow me to get us all caught up as to what's been happening.

Febuary 3rd was my final day working at Dollar General. Technically, I was supposed to finish the Friday earlier, but my manager held me on for three extra days to work with a new worker, getting her caught up as to what to do before handing my keys over to her.

With that taken care of, I am now mostly focusing on my work in the deli department, relearning deli protocols from my convenience store days in the early 2000s. The only difference is that they have a promissory for the chicken and a deep fryer.

My hours are also different from those of Dollar General, so that is also a big change for me, going from full-time to part-time, but I am not complaining. In fact, I am actually enjoying the change; this way, I can focus on myself. Something I was unable to do, for some time. Also, it's not far for me to travel, unlike the 20 miles round trip I had to do almost daily. Saving me on gas and wear an tear to my car.

Orientation Day, New Duties

Evening journeyers how is everyone today. I hope that you all had a wonderful weekend.

Today went as expected. Had orientation at Tops Market this morning. Being placed into the Deli Department, with possible crossover to Cashier as summer approaches.

Went to work at Dollar General afterwards, spoken with my manager, he wasn't happy that I was leaving, especially over the fact the week before, one of my coworkers quit instantly. But he doesn't blame me for my decision.

With everything that's been happening over the past months, it was a time to make a change for the better.

So, this is the new beginning for me, a new change hopefully for the best. We'll see.

New Job, New Beginnings

Well journeyers, just as the title stated.

I got a new job.

After 7 years working for Dollar General, 5 of those years being an assistant manager with no prospects of promotion, plus the pressing of micromanaging from the District Manager, it was time to find something new. Around the time of Christmas, actually I started to put in applications around.

Tops Market uptown, called and set up an interview earlier today. Was on edge throughout the interview and the wait that followed. Been too long since I've done such.

Around 5 this afternoon, i got the call from the Manager of Tops, setting up the following Monday for orientation and congratulating me on getting the job.

Sure, I will be receiving less than what I was in Dollar General, just by a dollar, which is funny. Plus, less hours, something I need to adjust to. Since I'm so used to working up to 40 hours, now my hours range from 16 to 32.

We'll see how Monday goes. I'll be putting in my two weeks, and cause of that, there's no conflict of interest now for the work, I can do both jobs til the end of my resignation.

Til then journeyers, have a good night.

Happy 2025!!!

Healing Oracle Card: "Choice" I choose serenity, light, and positive energy. No matter what I go through, I choose happiness. I rise above fear and direct my thoughts to God.

Happy New Year, Journeyers!!!

I hope everyone is having a safe first day of the year and is recovering well from last night's celebrations.

Each year, I start a quarterly resolution, and this year is no different. I'm focusing on a job change because I'm tired of no changes happening. I'm also going to focus on myself once more.
